Finalists of IPSO CHALLENGE 2013

CHALLENGE2013 Winners and IPSO CHALLENGE Chairman

In 2013, the IPSO Alliance debuted IPSO CHALLENGE, a contest for innovators around the globe to design and showcase the latest real world uses of IP-enabled technology. Entrants were initially asked to submit a proposal for a product, design or application and, once selected as a semi-finalist, to submit a working prototype that was tested by a panel of distinguished judges and IPSO members in Helsinki, Finland. To add to the challenge, semi-finalists had only 6 weeks to perfect their designs, document and videotape instructions for the set up and use of their prototype, and send it to the Finland. Three finalists were then flown to Chicago, IL to present their prototypes at Sensors Expo, where prizes of $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 were awarded center stage in front of a wide audience of technology industry specialists. Finalists and semi-finalists alike received invaluable international exposure through IPSO’s recognition of their innovative designs. Each of the three companies has gone on to develop and promote their products using their prize money and the connections they made from participating in the challenge.

IPSO CHALLENGE was designed to both promote and contribute to the development of the Internet of Things. The competition seeks innovative concepts in interfaces, interactions, and applications that showcase the use of the Internet Protocol (IP) in sensor/control and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications enabling the IoT. After receiving numerous interesting, unique and original entries, the Alliance has decided to continue IPSO CHALLENGE in 2014.
